At a time when the world is turning towards a more responsible, environmentally conscious lifestyle, self-consumption is finding its place in many households. Producing one’s own source of energy, one’s electricity has become as important as consuming organic. More than a trend, it has become an indispensable practice, for the survival of humanity but also for its well-being. Focus on self-consumption and its advantages.

SELF-CONSUMPTION IN A FEW WORDS

By definition, self-consumption is the consumption of a resource produced by an entity (family, individual, community, etc.). It includes food, goods, services or energy. This concept can take different forms depending on the field of study. In medicine, for example, the self-consumption of medicines is referred to as self-medication, whereas in terms of energy, it is energy self-consumption. The latter consists of producing the energy to be consumed by its producers. This includes, among others, methane from farms, domestic energy through the use of wood or photovoltaic electricity through solar panels. The latter being the most widely used, this is why self-consumption is most often associated with the production of photovoltaic electricity.

PHOTOVOLTAIC SELF-CONSUMPTION IN MORE DETAIL

Photovoltaic self-consumption consists of the consumption of self-produced electricity. This energy is obtained from the sun, which is a renewable and abundant energy, and transformed into electricity by solar panels. However, the amount of electricity produced is not constant. For example, it is lower in the late evening and higher during the hours when the sun is very strong. The same is true in winter or during the rainy seasons when the sun is very often absent. For this reason, the photovoltaic system requires a storage place in case of surplus energy. Energy to cover consumption in the event of a drop in productivity. In some cases, depending on the region of installation and the materials used and the needs of the households, it is not necessary to work with an energy supplier because the energy produced is sufficient to supply the households with electricity. In other cases where it is necessary to use them, the relationship will be less and the usefulness will be partial.

THE ADVANTAGES OF SELF-CONSUMPTION OF ENERGY

Producing the energy we consume ourselves is beneficial from different points of view. To speak only about the photovoltaic self-consumption which allows first of all to reduce its electricity bill. Indeed, the fact of producing your own electricity means that you are not dependent on a supplier on the one hand, and on the other hand you have the freedom to manage your own consumption. Moreover, since self-consumption uses green electricity, it is an eco-responsible gesture. In this way, the use of solar panels contributes to respect for the environment and encourages responsible consumption by using less energy-consuming appliances and adopting good everyday habits.
